Emilio “Chino” Ramirez is the founder of Chino Jiu Jitsu. Born in San Miguelito in the mountains of Guatemala, Chino was raised in a small, impoverished village without access to electricity or running water. Drawing inspiration from his father, a skilled martial artist, and struggling against the many challenges of a modest upbringing, Chino came to Canada at the age of 17 to live and study, full of hope for the future.
Today, with over 15 years of experience, Chino has cultivated his skills as a martial artist by practicing many diverse styles including Tae Kwon Do, Jit Kun Do, Boxing, Olympic Wrestling and Capoeira. His true passion lies in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and he is the first Guatemalan native to earn a Black Belt under the IBJJF.
Chino’s enduring dedication and perseverance have propelled him through many accomplishments and victories. He has earned a place on the world stage, winning the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu “Mundial” World Championship in 2010 and becoming a multiple time Canadian champion in three weight divisions. This September he is competing at the World Master Jiu Jitsu Championships in Las Vegas.
These competitive successes gained Chino the recognition that allowed him to make the transition into the film industry, quickly establishing himself as a stunt performer, stunt coordinator and actor. Films such as Lions Gate’s Tapped Out and Adam Sandler’s Pixels are among the list of titles he’s worked on.
When not on set, Chino shares his love of martial arts by teaching classes locally and seminars internationally. Whether it’s seminars in Guatemala, Barbados, or Toronto, Chino is always sharing his passion with others.
Chino believes our thoughts define what we become and has dedicated his life to building a healthy environment for both himself and his students. Chino fuels the mind, body and soul with each lesson he teaches, providing the ultimate motivation for everyone who knows him. He helps people become the best version of themselves, instilling and living his creed: progressively realize your worthy ideal.
